Santa Claus is coming to town – and residents of Droitwich Spa in Worcestershire plan to celebrate in style.

Santa's Grotto will be in St. Andrew's Square Shopping Centre, St. Andrew's Street, from Saturday November 23 till Tuesday December 24. It is run by Droitwich Lions who say that although entry is free donations are welcome and money raised will be donated to local children's charities.


Santa's Sleigh will be in St. Andrew's Square Shopping Centre on December 7 and 14 from 9.30am – 12.30pm. Droitwich Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Droitwich will be taking the sleigh around local streets during December.

For the town's Advent Calendar Droitwich Arts Network will be displaying 24 works of art at different venues around the town from December 1 – 24. A different calendar window will be opened each day to display a piece of work.


The big Christmas Lights Switch On is on Saturday November 30.

The popular event opens at 9am with a Farmers' and Craft Market in Victoria Square followed by a craft fayre in St. Andrews Church (10am – 3pm) and craft stalls, exhibition and children's activities in the Heritage and Tourist Information Centre (10am – 4pm).

[ADVERT]Santa's Grotto will be open from 10am – 4pm and 5pm – 6pm and will feature children's activities. The new Planet Droitwich shop, which is in the Shopping Centre, will be opened by the Mayor of Droitwich Spa at 11.30am.

Throughout the afternoon there will be plenty to entertain visitors including puppet shows (1pm and 2pm), Salvation Army Band (2.30pm) and the Christmas Nativity Story and animal crib (3pm). Worcester and Droitwich Rock Choir will be performing in the High Street at 3.30pm followed by a Children's Lantern Parade and Coach and Horses, carrying Santa and the Mayor.

The parade will finish in the High Street Triangle for a performance by West Acre Middle School Choir before the switching on of the Lights at 4.45pm. The day finishes with a Christmas Community Sing-a-Long in St. Andrews Church accompanied by Droitwich Spa Community Choir.
