Tamworth children bring joy with festive card designs
Two children have an extra reason to smile this Christmas after their designs were chosen in the Mayor of Tamworth's Christmas card competition. Local children were invited to design the official card which the Mayor sends to Staffordshire civic heads, local community groups and care homes in a bid to spread some cheer during a very different festive season. The competition was open to two age groups, children aged 4 to 10 years and those aged 11-16, with a winner chosen from each to create a design to make up this year's first online e-Christmas card. The winner of the younger age group is seven-year-old Mollie Latham, while Rose Baker-Wilkes, age 12, was judged the winner of the 11-16 age group.

The competition attracted such a high number of excellent entries that the Mayor, Councillor Rosemary Claymore, decided to have four highly commended places. These were awarded to Emily Pope, aged six; Amari Godfray, eight; Lewis Latham, 12, and Ruby Oberg, 13. The two winning designs will be featured on the e-Christmas card and the young artists will also receive a gift voucher. There will also be gift vouchers for the four highly commended places. Rosemary said: "It's a tradition for the Mayor to send a Christmas card to local groups and civic heads and for my Mayoral year I thought it would be lovely to have our own personal design created by a young Tamworth person. This Christmas is very different without the usual activities and events, but Christmas is far from cancelled and these children have demonstrated how to get into the spirit and spread some festive joy."

The Mayor added: "I was delighted with the response to the competition, it was difficult to choose the winners with many amazing festive designs including snowy Tamworth Castle scenes, snowmen, Santa visiting the town and our Castle Grounds. Mollie and Rose's designs will be used for two cards and highly commended winners will receive gift vouchers and have their festive images shared across my social media channels. A big thank you to everyone who has taken part."
