A medieval castle in Staffordshire has been specially dressed for Christmas. Tamworth Castle has opened its festive doors to welcome visitors to explore rooms decorated with Christmas arrangements. Tamworth Borough Council has enlisted the help of two local community groups, Dosthill Women's Institute and Lady Meadow Sewing Group, to help prepare the castle for Christmas. Volunteers have been assisting council staff to transform the castle to reflect a traditional Christmas household, within the many period rooms inside the imposing 11th century structure. They have been busy creating hand sewn decorations, dressing the castle with flower arrangements, and making additional scenes for five of the themed rooms - Narnia, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Nutcracker, The Night before Christmas and Scrooge's study complete with Marley's Ghost. However, the castle will only be open to families booking onto one of its Magical Santa Christmas between December 17 and 20. The festive experience invites children, and their parents, to join Santa and his elves for a fun packed show full of yuletide cheer, songs and merriment. Prior to the show, children will have the opportunity to write a letter to Santa, post it through a magic letter box and create a Christmas keepsake. Each child will be presented with a gift from Santa and his elves. One hour slots can be booked between 9.30am and 5.30pm, with tickets priced at £17.95 for children and £10 for adults. Councillor Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: "We are delighted to share our festive décor with visitors this Christmas. We had a fantastic response to the return of an annual favourite, Castle by Candlelight, on December 10 and 11. It was lovely to see this evening event enjoyed by so many again. We are very fortunate to have Dosthill WI and Lady Meadow Sewing Group to help us with creating traditional festive displays. In previous year's these amazing groups have helped us create poppies to cascade down the castle wall, knitted flowers across the town to support our Dementia Friendly Community, post box covers, plus much more. We thank these groups and our volunteers in helping us spread some Christmas cheer in our town this December."



General admission to the castle costs £9.95 for adults, £7.50 for a child up to 15, and £8.95 concessions. A family ticket (up to 5 persons) costs £37.50. The castle is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and then shuts on December 30 until 1 February 2023.
