A talented folk singer and guitarist who plays on rare instruments, including a Crwth, is performing in the Midlands.

Singer-storyteller Chris Roberts has performed at festivals and on the radio across the UK, but his latest gig will be a more intimate and atmospheric affair in a church on Birmingham outskirts.

Roberts's concert is inside St Peter’s Church in Church Road, Stonnall, between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield on Friday May 23. Doors open at 7pm ahead of the singer taking the stage at 7.30pm.

"Chris Roberts is a phenomenal guitarist, playing from Bach to Welsh Folk on the Crwth - a rare Welsh bowed lyre," said concert co-organiser Bob Ingram.

Roberts, from Cardiff, can also play the banjo and mandolin. Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of wine/soft drink/ raffle ticket. The gig aims to ensure live music is heard in the community.

The concert is a collaboration between St Peter's Hub and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire , which is a leading teaching and performance facility nurturing talented musicians, actors and other creatives in Birmingham city centre, pictured below.

The Conservatoire's alumni include award-winning singer-songwriter Laura Mvula, Call The Midwife actress Helen George, concert violinist Esther Abrami and opera soprano Beibei Wang.

Tickets to see Chris Robers are available for cash only from Stonnall's Premier Shop on Main Street or on the door at the event if seats are still available. Tickets can also be reserved in advance by calling Linda Birchall on 01543 328711.

St. Peter’s Church can be found in Church Road, Stonnall, WS9 9HL.

For those interested in more on Royal Birmingham Conservatoire , an open day takes place on June 12 at its impressive site at Millennium Point in Birmingham.
