Celebrate Chinese New Year in Manchester and enjoy a weekend of amazing events.

Manchester will be transformed on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February 2018 to celebrate Chinese New Year. The city has already been decorated with thousands of red lanterns to make people aware it is nearly time to celebrate. This year's Chinese New Year celebrations have been planned by the Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester and the Council, with the support of local retailers. Visitors to the city are in for an amazing weekend.

The weekend will include a funfair which children are sure to love, lots of creative workshops for families and will conclude with a fireworks display and parade. There will be lots of amazing food and drink on offer and a chance to learn about a different culture. Here's what's going on around the city centre:

The Golden Dragon

Make sure to stop by St Ann's Square to see the Golden Dragon, who will be there for the whole weekend. There is also a competition for the person who takes the best selfie with the dragon. You could win an evening of bowling at Dog Bowl Manchester, which is perfect for the Year of the Dog. Your pictures can be shared on Twitter @CNY_MCR and tag #chinesenewyearMCR. Let's hope the Golden Dragon brings you some luck!

Authentic Food and Drink

If you love Chinese cuisine, you will want to visit the City Centre this weekend. St Ann's Square will be full of street food traders. The best Asian food and drink will be available, including dumplings, dim sum and much more.

Block Printing Workshop

This free workshop will be taking place in Manchester Arndale on a drop-in basis. The traditional Chinese art form is being shared by staff from the Contemporary Chinese Art Centre. Open to all ages, this is a great chance for everyone to learn a new art form. If you have never visited the Chinese Arts Centre, it is a brilliant way to learn more about this cultural art form. The workshops will be taking place on Sunday 18th February from 11am until 4pm. There is no need to book, just turn up.

The Dragon Parade & Fireworks **

The highlight of the Chinese New Year will be the annual Dragon Parade where a 175ft dragon will travel through the city. Along the route, there will be traditional dancers, martial arts demonstrations and acrobatics. This will be an amazing event which you will not want to miss. The parade takes place on Sunday between 12pm and 6pm with a fireworks finale in Chinatown.

This is set to be a spectacular weekend. Come along and enjoy the Year of the Dog celebrations, which are set to go off with a bang!
