A little piece of Mexico has recently arrived in Birmingham, . This Mexican fast food restaurant is on Colmore Row, right in the City Centre, (for Brummies it's in the old West Brom building society building). It's a large space with counter service, going for the whole street food vibe decor. And yeah pulling it off. Colourful, spacious and chilled.
So what's unique about this new chain? Well, it's new to the West Midlands, predominantly London centric and Manchester till now. (Apparently started only in 2007 by two friends, Eric and Dan don't you know). If you like burritos you're in the right place. If you like burrito fillings without the bread you're in the right place. Sides. Licensed. Check out their menu online or instore. Either way, typical meat, prawn combinations, but 's increasingly known for its vegan option masquerading as chicken, following 's collaboration with plant-based vegan food company THIS, on their "THIS Isn't A Chicken" Burrito. Yes, that's what it's called. Gone are the days of the vegan politely declining a group invite to dinner on the high street.
Prices are mid-range, with 'regular' or 'small' portion choices. There's lunchtime offer with a drink included. Actual price is dependent on meat fillings. And interesting that their "THIS Isn't A Chicken" option is more expensive than their lowly chicken. In a blind tasting, perhaps, Tortilla, in Grand Central, Birmingham does the same fare (yes they do a vegan pulled jackfruit meat alternative). But I'm up for the challenge to put theory into practice soon. I've devoured the chicken burrito, medium salsa, everything in kinda approach. Oh and the steak burrito, cooked to order, default medium-rare. Delicious. Check it out. Let me know if you're going back. I am.
And why's it called ? It's commonly used as slang for someone from Mexico City... Nice touch.
