Moreish monkey muffins and familiar lunch favourites
On the side road off Oxford Road, you'll see a cheeky monkey's face sticking out and making you chuckle. Follow your curiosity and you'll be greeted by the new Cheeky Coffee Co cafe which is brightening up Hulme Street
Cheeky Monkey Coffee is one of the new coffee shops which is one on the side road, Hulme Street, adjacent to Oxford Road. It's near to Student Village halls, so it does attract a lot of students, and generally a young crowd.
It's quite spacious: green, airy, and light. It's a no frills kind of place, and it simply sells hot beverages (every type of coffee from Americano to Macchiato), to fair trade organic tea.
It's one of the cheaper venues I've found this side of town; for a large latte and a huge red velvet muffin I paid £3.30, which is what you'd normally just pay for the drink, in most coffee shops. It is excellent value for money, and open 'til late.
Cheeky café is just the type of place you need when the hours become long and you're craving that elusive caffeine fix. The staff don't bother you, and once you've finished your drink they don't pester you for more business.
My latte was exactly what I needed after a long session reading, and the muffin wasn't bad either - it was fantastic. The staff even put it in a little takeaway box for me.
I ended up sharing the muffin with my sister because it was so large. It also provided her with much-needed energy after she had been studying in the nearby MMU library.
If you happen to be nearby with your laptop, tablet, or smart phone, take advantage of the free WiFi and sip on a hot drink, or tuck into a classic jacket potato with two toppings for £2.50. It's a students dream cafe, or if you're a bit of a bargain hunter, take the 5 minute walk from the city centre and nestle in Cheeky Coffee. It's my new favourite hangout, and a damn sight cheaper than some of the cafes in the city.
