With Live Music to Celebrate
When my grandpa was a boy, he would set off in the morning on his bike and travel at least sixty miles coast before heading back home again for supper. It amazes me how fit he was. Most people would not dream of doing that today - at least not on a regular basis. A trip to the sea side would be strictly by car, train or bus.
Maybe it is time to prove that we can still be as fit as they were in the thirties and forties by taking up a challenging sixty mile bike ride across the country, in aid of charity.
Bike Events is the UK's largest cycling organisers, providing safe, family routes suitable for anyone over five. They hold numerous day events every year in order to raise money for charity, and there are currently four planned to take place from London.
Starting from Syon Park in Brentford, the sixty mile journey to Oxpens Meadow, Oxford, will be a leisurely ride. There will be a lunch break at the river in Marlow, a few steep climbs at Chiltern Hills, and a scenic path through Christmas Common. At the end of the trip, there will be live music and drinks in the beer tent. Anyone fourteen or over can enter for £18.50, and all sponsorship money will go to St. Mungo's.
A fifty-two mile ride from Victoria Park to Southend-on-Sea will take you through the beautiful gardens of Priory Park. On completing the journey, there will be music, refreshments, and a sports massage. Fourteens and over can sign-up for £19.75, with all sponsorship money going towards The British Heart Foundation.
