The 1920s brought new and exciting forms of entertainment such as jazz and cabaret; while this proved a delight to audiences, it was a disaster for circuses, who were quickly losing their fan base. Only the biggest and best shows were able to survive, and they often resorted to underhand tactics like spying and sabotage.
Chaplin's Circus is bust; the family have one last chance to save the business. An exciting Human Cannonball will be sent off rocketing into the air. But there is a spy in their midst, who will do anything to make sure Chaplin's circus fails. Will the Chaplins put on the greatest show on Earth, or will the human cannonball backfire?
