In the 1960s Carnaby Street was synonymous with Swinging London. The Mods who flocked there back then may now be drawing their old age pensions, but the street continues to rock. The Rolling Stones have just celebrated 50 years in the rock business and the Street is celebrating their Golden Jubilee by suspending gigantic 3D spheres containing gold and silver vinyl records decorated with their album covers.
To get shoppers into the festive spirit and to encourage Londoners to spend money, Carnaby Street will be hosting a huge shopping party on 22 November. The Rolling Stones themed Christmas decorations are now up, and many of the shops will be offering special promotions, competitions and discounts. To further the Stones theme, there is a pop up shop, named GRRR! after their new album. Other events for the evening will include a free
Illamasqua rock chick makeover,
free make up sessions at
Gola Classics, and necklace and charm bracelet styling at
Joy Everley Fine Jewellers.
If all the shopping makes you hungry and thirsty
Ginger and White will be serving slow roasted pork sandwiches, washed down with mulled spiced apple juice,
Hi Panda will be offering chocolate fondue,
Lazy Oaf and
Onitsuka Tiger will help to quench your thirst with Rekordelig cider and beer. You will also have an opportunity to learn more about making coffee at the Speakeasy Espresso Bar or to watch food demonstrations at
Sutra Kitchen.
More than 100 shops, restaurants and bars in and around Carnaby Street will be offering 20% discount on purchases. You will have to register for your free ticket on the
website and then just turn up and enjoy yourself. 'You gotta move' so 'Come on' down to Carnaby Street and get some 'Satisfaction' on 22 November.
