Birmingham Royal Ballet director Carlos Acosta is to host a special screening of the film of his ballet
Don Quixote at Birmingham's Electric Cinema. Taking place on 27 October at 7.30pm, the film features the full length production performed by Birmingham Royal Ballet at Birmingham Hippodrome earlier this year as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
Based on Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel, the ballet follows the adventures of knight Don Quixote, his servant Sancho Panza and young lovers Kitri and Basilio. Choreographed by Carlos Acosta, the production premiered earlier this year to critical acclaim. Carlos says: "
Don Quixote is the best ballet to attend if you are not a ballet connoisseur. If you don't know anything about ballet, this is a great chance to learn about it. Don Quixote also appeals to family audiences and it is great for children because the story is entertaining and easy to follow."
Electric Cinema manager Jean Stanton added: "
We are delighted to have the opportunity of presenting this acclaimed production on our screen and especially delighted to welcome Carlos Acosta, one of the world's most famous dancers, to our cinema for what will be a memorable evening."
The screening of
Don Quixote at the Electric Cinema follows the film's general release to almost 200 cinemas across the UK on 26 October. It will also be screened at the Electric on 6 November at 2.30pm although Carlos Acosta will not be present on this date. For more information and tickets see www.electricbirmingham.com
