Everyone loves a bargain and there's no better place to find one than at a car boot sale in and around Birmingham.



Running from Spring until the Autumn, on the whole, car boots are some of the best places to find vintage treasures along with second-hand books, CDs, children's toys and clothes, and the most bizarre unusual items you can imagine.

With thousands of people turning out for car boot weekend sales as well as Bank Holiday special events, it is also becoming more usual to find value-for-money food for offer including cut-price fruit and veg, meat from a local butchers, home-made cakes and plants to grow your own.

So, here is a top 10 of car boot sales across the West Midlands (in no particular order).

1. Tamworth

This car boot is found half a mile away from Junction 9 of the M42 in Staffordshire (postcode B76 9PU). It's open on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 7am to 3pm and attracts huge crowds and sellers.

This car boot sale is on land near The Belfry Golf Club and Drayton Manor Park. In fact, if you follow signs to Drayton Manor Park from the motorway, you will find it.



It costs £1 entry per car but you will save far more than that on the stalls. Be warned, this boot sale does get busy on Sundays with queues for around half a mile long after 9am.

This market has a lot of second-hand clothes. There is also often furniture available.

2. Studley

The car boot at Studley, Worcestershire, is one of the largest in the West Midlands and takes place on most Sunday in the summer.

A real bonus is that it is free for buyers too. The event takes place on The Slough, off the A448 in the village of Studley, near Redditch (postcode B96 6EX) from 6am to 4pm.

Studley Car Boot Sale is one of the long-standing markets of its kind in the region as it was started 26 years ago and is still going strong. It has permission to be held on only 14 Sundays throughout the summer months, subject to weather.

3. Middleton

This sale takes place in Coppice Lane, just one mile from Bassetts Pole island on the A38/A446 (postcode B78 2BU) and close to Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham.

It is open every Saturday from 7am to 2pm and gets a large crowd and many families hunting out everything from children's toys and outfits to mirrors and furniture.



4. Stratford upon Avon Racecourse

Free to enter, this is a small car boot at the entrance to the racecourse but is special as there are more antiques and quality collectibles.

It often attracts affluent residents of Stratford upon Avon, who are clearing out their homes, and therefore has some choice bargains on offer, particularly vintage jewellery and clothes.

This car boot is every Saturday in the car boot season, open from 7am. You can find the sale in Luddington Road, Stratford upon Avon (postcode CV37 9SE). It is on land to the the right hand side of the entrance to the racecourse.

5. Himley by-pass, near Wolverhampton

West of Birmingham, in the Black Country, this car boot sale - called Col's Car Boot - takes place on the B4176 Himley by-pass (postcode WV5 0LU).

It boasts being the "biggest car boot sale in the Midlands" and does attract very large numbers of sellers and buyers every Sunday, Wednesday and Bank Holiday Monday. Gates open to the public from 6am on these days.

6. Branson's Cross, Redditch

This car boot is next to Junction 3 of the M42 in Beoley, Worcestershire, near the border with Birmingham (postcode B94 5HR).

It's a large sale that has more than a hundred sellers, ranging from professional shop owners to antique dealers and locals selling second-hand goods. It opens at 6.30am.



7. The Maypole, Birmingham

This is quite a small sale with around 50 sellers and average goods. If you are after standard products like toys and books, you can pick these up for as little as 10p.

Taking place in Alcester Road South at Maypole roundabout in Birmingham (postcode B14 5TU), this car boot sale is every Sunday from 7am.

8. Hoggs Lane Car Boot Sale, Birmingham

One of the few inner-city car boots in Birmingham. This is a regular Saturday morning affair that takes place in Hoggs Lane, Northfield (postcode B31 5PX).

It's a medium sized car boot sale with plenty of bargains to be had. It's also easy to get to without a car (unlike most car boots as farm land on the edge of Birmingham) as it is close to Northfield town centre and public transport links.

This car boot sale takes place on Saturday mornings from 7am.

9. Ketch Boot Sale, near Worcester

Running from 6am to around 1pm every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, this car boot operates from Easter through to October.

It's a large plot with plenty of stalls and car booters where bargains galore can be found from across Worcestershire and nearby prestigious Malvern. Worth taking a punt to find some real treasures.

The car boot is on Ketch field where the A38 and A4440 Broomhall Way meet, next to Carrington Bridge. It is about a mile from Junction 7 of the M5 (postcode WR5 3HW).



10. Coleshill & Chelmsley Wood Car Boot Sale -

Situated on land off Birmingham Road, Chelmsley Wood, towards Solihull on the edge of Birmingham (postcode B46 1DP), this car boot sale is something of a difference because it takes place midweek.

Buyers can browse the merchandise every Tuesday and Friday from 7am to midday.

It doesn't tend to have as many householders selling off the items from the attic, but is still worth a trip.
