One of the twelve apostles, Bartholomew the Great has given his name to St. Barts, the church in West Smithfield. It is one of London's oldest churches, having been founded in 1123 as an Augustinian Priory.

As with all Anglican churches, Christmas is a very special holiday, marking the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. Their Advent season starts on the 28th November with a Penna Carol Concert and runs through to the Epiphany on the 5th January.

Many concerts and sermons are scheduled during this time, including a concert the 2nd December by Edition Peters , a publishing company that specialises in sheet music. 'The Candles Glow' will begin at 7pm, and include contemporary music featuring choirs such as VOCES8, Lumina, and Stephen Cleobury. In addition, you will also be able to see several world premiers, including works by Eriks Ešenvalds, Rihards Dubra, Roxanna Panufnik, and Alexander Levine. Tickets are £12 or £8 for concessions. They recommend you book early because previous years have proved it to be a very popular event.
