Camden Town has been a popular destination for tourists for many years. Once home to Amy Winehouse, It attracts people from all over and is diverse in culture with its street markets, performance acts of street talent, and its vibrant colour and music scenes.
With so much going on here, sometimes one can visit missing some of Camden's best spots. Surrounding Camden Lock is an abundant selection of street stalls, all selling a huge range of cuisines and street food. Some of these can be quite pricey and cost as much as £10 for a basic fish and chip takeaway.
Over Camden Lock bridge, there can be found a range of healthy food choices where almost everything is freshly made in front of your very eyes. One of my favourites is 'Oli Baba's', where they offer takeaway portions of halloumi fries, topped with pomegranate seeds, chilly flakes, garlic mayo and fresh mint. This much fresher and vibrant choice is a much better option if you're looking for an authentic and vibrant dish to match Camden's colourful scene as a borough.
Of course, as well as food, there are many markets which sell merchandise such as wristbands. Venturing further away from the market centre along the high street you can find a range of independent stores which sell much more authentic pieces, some of which are crafted in Camden itself such as carved wooden household items. Other places, such as 'Escapade' is a famous shop specialising in life-like Halloween costumes and accessories for dress-up. Along the same high street, you shall find a range of quirky coffee shops, visiting one of these is well worth a try for an authentic freshly brewed coffee or tea!
Of course, visiting the hustle and bustle of the central market square is also a great experience! Walking around here, you can find record shops which sell old Vinyl records of all types of genres, highly recommended for any music lover! Another place to visit in the main market are their many stalls which sell pastries and desserts, these are all freshly made each morning so arriving early is best! One place near the entrance to Camden Lock even sells 'Cronuts', a mixture between a croissant and a donut- a great sensory experience for the taste-buds.
Finally, like any other major town, Camden has some great shops, ranging from the convenient major retailers such as Starbucks, Superdrug and All Saints to smaller shops including tattoo shops, merchandise stores and costume stores- Either way, there's something for everyone!
