If you want an up-close encounter with potentially hundreds of butterflies then a visit to Butterfly World is for you. Though like most standalone attractions in the UK, it's not the biggest of places you'll be able to encounter several different species of butterfly from around the world.

Within the enclosure, there are opportunities to see the life cycle of the butterflies from egg, larva, pupa and adult, with an area displaying them before they emerge from their Chrysalis. This also has several other insects on display.

In the next section, you'll find Fountain World, the Japanese gardens that contain an array of different plants and statues.

Koi ponds filled with many large and colourful Japanese Koi Carp that you can feed by hand if you're there at the right time of day

There is also a cafe on site. A visit here would take most people less than an hour, and given the price, you could save money by booking it at the same time as your ferry crossing as many of them offer discounts of up to 20% on local attractions when booking at the same time.
