Life Of Legendary Actor Richard Burton Told In One-Man Show
The life of the late great actor Richard Burton is to be displayed in all its glory during a one-man stage show which will be touring theatres across the UK from the beginning of February. Simply titled Burton, the show aims to vividly present the life of the legendary Welsh actor in his own words from his humble beginnings to Hollywood stardom. It aims to show how beautiful women, not least former wife and screen goddess Elizabeth Taylor, alcohol and wealth were all intertwined with his incredible stage and film career.

Burton, which embarks on its UK tour from February 2 to June 24, including a performance at the Lichfield Garrick theatre on February 24, is performed by actor Rhodri Miles, who was himself born just a few miles away from the great man. Rhodri established Miles Productions in 2009 with the show Burton, written by Gwynne Edwards and directed by Gareth Armstrong. He went on to win the Best Actor Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival for his portrayal of Richard Burton. Rhodri's other theatre credits range from Othello to his award-winning role as Dylan Thomas in Clown in the Moon.

Richard Burton, who died in 1984 at the age of 58, first came to the notice of the acting world by establishing himself as a leading Shakespearean actor in the 1950s. His performance of Hamlet in 1964 led to him being called "the natural successor to Olivier". Burton went on to be nominated seven times for an Academy Award, although he never won, but he did receive a number of BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Tony Awards for Best Actor during a career that saw him become one of Hollywood's top earning stars in the 1960s. His famous film roles included several playing opposite Elizabeth Taylor, such as Cleopatra, The Taming of the Shrew, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, while he displayed his full range in performances ranging from Beckett and Alexander The Great to Where Eagles Dare.
