What Happened to Sixto Rodriguez?

Searching for the Sugarman might sound like the perfect title for a children's book about a kid looking for the perfect sweetshop, but it is actually a serious documentary directed by Malik Bendjelloul. Although American musician, Sixto Rodriguez's was never that popular in the US, he he really took of in South Africa, despite people not knowing much about him. After his death two fans from Cape Town go in search to discover the truth about what happened.
Last year the film won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary and he Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. It was filmed using a stylised Super 8mm, except for the final few scenes. Bendjelloul ran out of money near the end of filming and had to shoot the rest of it on his smart phone.
There will be a free screening of the documentary at Number 90 Bar Restaurant in Hackney Wick on the 18th February at 8pm. On the night, there will be a special offer, where you can buy a burger and beer/glass of house wine for £10, or if you're not interested in eating, three bottles of beer for a tenner.
