It used to be the Children's Hospital, (about eight years ago) so you'll be familiar with the area if you're local. The hospital moved location, and the building itself underwent a renovation; in its place came a spectrum of entertainment for local Brummies, and the new complex in Ladywood Middleway is now known as .

The cinema is clean, shiny, and cheaper than cineworld that's just down the road. You can lift the arm rests at the cinema (bonus) and sneak your own food in if you're not up for cinema food.

Frankie and Benny's is just across the way if you're up for tastier finger food, but there's also Dragon Bbq: At £5 a snack box you can't go wrong with the buffet and restaurant Dragon BBQ. It is one of the cheaper restaurants in , but it still has a surprisingly large and tasty array of Chinese cuisine, and classic buffet favourites (like sesame toast, sweet and sour chicken, and steamed Chinese vegetables).

If you're on lunch, or just want something to walk around with I recommend the fish and chip shop that is round the corner from Subway. They have won awards for the quality of their chips, but if you're not in a seaside mood you could opt for a Dominoes pizza, or a sandwich from Philpotts.

Cool cats come to Apres; cocktails, luxe décor, relaxed music mingled with dance hits, and lunchtime and after-work special prices it's no wonder city slickers flock to 's Apres post-6'o'clock.

Everyone likes a little flutter don't they? Broadway Casino is one the most polished gaming venues in Birmingham, and really the place for novices and professional poker, blackjack, and roulette players.

is also home to a Virgin Active gym. It is one of the best gyms in Birmingham, and is equipped to deal with the most unfit and hard hitting exercise bunnies with a number of qualified trainers to hand. There is also a pool and spa so you can ease those aching muscles post-gym session.

The gym itself is open from Monday to Friday: 6.30am – 10pm for those early birds/keen active people who have the strength to work out before work (madness), and Saturday and Sunday: 8am – 8pm - more reasonable hours, in my opinion.

After a hard-earned work out you should be able to enjoy yourself, so head over to the Bowlplex bowling alley, which is a 30-second walk across the way to the left.

Bowlplex always has great offers, so if you're a student all you need is your NUS card for a cheaper tariff. And when you play an hour of American Pool they throw in an extra half an hour.

Now you know how to spend your next weekend.
