From Topman to Starbucks, to Harvey Nichols to Schuh – one high street in Leeds is certainly a great way to, well, 'shop till you drop' as the saying goes.

With over thirty retail stores, restaurants, pubs and cafés making up Briggate, a day out in the city centre really is a dream for your keen shopper.

Despite your average 'Clipboard Sales Rep' scattered up and down the street, it's very easy to switch off with your iPod plugged in and enjoy the summer sales. For years, the White Rose Shopping Centre on the outskirts of Leeds has been the obvious place to get new attire, but on a sunny day in the North – walking from shop to shop makes it a treat on Briggate.

I went this week, and despite the rain, the street was packed and the atmosphere was weirdly upbeat. After spending what I could afford, I went for a drink at the 'Oldest Pub in Leeds' Whitelocks , tucked away down a side alley on Briggate, which was a great touch to the afternoon.

Don't get me wrong, across the country there are plenty more of fantastic high streets, but if you're in the area or in Leeds for a night out – come up early and don't miss out on the summer sales.
