Do away with Blue Monday and have a cuppa with a friend
It will be a case of 'Brew Monday' rather than 'Blue Monday' as residents of Tamworth in Staffordshire are encouraged to reach out and support people they care about. The third Monday in January is sometimes referred to as the most difficult day of the year and is often called 'Blue Monday'. So, in response, Tamworth Borough Council's Street Scene team is joining forces with local partners to highlight 'Brew Monday' instead of on January 17. The scheme aims to serve as a reminder for everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people they care about. It is intended as an opportunity to turn the 'blue' into a 'brew' and start a conversation over a cuppa, reach out and connect with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones. To promote the 'Brew Monday' event, two large 'mugs' have been added to the new planting scheme at Tamworth railway station which will form part of this year's Tamworth in Bloom display across the town.

Volunteers from Tamworth Samaritans, Community Together CIC and station staff will be handing out teabags, talking to passengers about the importance of reaching out and providing listening tips on January 17 and 24. Lee Bates from Community Together said: "We are pleased to join Tamworth Samaritans in their Brew Monday Campaign 2022 at Tamworth Train Station. January is the toughest month for many, for so many different reasons; so it's important to remind people there is support out there and about the excellent work Tamworth Samaritans do in saving lives for those in distress. We are there to assist with underlying issues that lead people into crisis. Our staff and volunteers will be on hand on both Monday 17 and Monday 24, to inform people of what help they can access." He said seeing the floral display at the station could be a "real pick me up for those having a bad day".

Sarah McGrandle, Tamworth Borough Council's Assistant Director of Operations and Leisure, said: "As we approach this year's Tamworth in Bloom planting we are delighted to be able to work in partnership with Tamworth Samaritans, Community Together and the train station to continue with our planting on the island and supporting the new designs for floral tea mugs for Brew Monday. Right now is the perfect time to connect with those around you, especially when a lot of people are still working remotely or having to isolate. It doesn't matter if it's Monday morning or Sunday night, get-together anytime face to face or virtually, it's important to enjoy a cuppa and a catch-up with friends, family or colleagues."
