A ravishing Audrey Hepburn helped transform this Truman Capote tale into an iconic film as leading lady Holly Golightly. Now pop singer Pixie Lott takes a turn in the role in a new "rougher-edged" stage production of Breakfast At Tiffany's.

The story revolves around Fred, a young writer from Louisiana, who meets the charming, vivacious and utterly elusive good-time girl Holly.

Fred falls in love with Holly but he is poor and has to fight for her attention against other suitors including a playboy millionaire and the future president of Brazil. There's plenty of other twists and secrets to be uncovered too along the way.

This is the first UK and Ireland theatre tour of Breakfast At Tiffany's and it has been adapted for stage by Pulitzer Prize-winning Finalist and Tony and Olivier Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg.

Greenberg warns fans of the film that he is taking this version back to the original setting of the novella - in Second World War New York. He adds that it will also be truer to Capote's original - more "rougher-edged" than the romantic overtones in the film starring Hepburn and George Peppard.

Greenberg explained. "Capote was a great writer and a natural maker of plots and Breakfast at Tiffany's has a drive that makes it very alluring to dramatise."

"The goal of this version is to return to the original setting of the novella, which is the New York of the Second World War, as well as to resume its tone – still stylish and romantic, yes, but rougher-edged and more candid than people generally remember,"

Directed by Nikolai Foster, the production opens in Leicester at Curve on March 3, before moving on to theatres including Birmingham's New Alexandra Theatre, The Lowry in Salford and
Bord Gais Theatre, Dublin.

It will end in London with a 12-week run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 30 June to 17 September when Pixie Lott makes her acting debut in the West End.

Pixie Lott said, "I absolutely love Holly's style, and free spirit; she has always been an icon to me and I can't wait to bring my own personality to the role."

She added: "Alongside music, I've always wanted to be in a play, and getting the opportunity to be in one of my all time favourites and play this fabulous character is a dream come true."

Pop star Lott began studying at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts at the age of 11, and whilst there appeared in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium but in a singing role.

She went on to have six top ten singles in the UK including Mama Do, Boys and Girls, All About Tonight and Nasty and gained more popularity when taking part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, when she reached the quarter finals.

Theatre-goers in some cities should be aware that Pixie Lott will not be playing the role of Holly Golightly in Nottingham, Bath, Glasgow, Edinburgh or High Wycombe. These shows will star Verity Rushworth.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a co-production between the Curve Theatre, Leicester and Colin Ingram, Peter Kane, William Sinclair and Michael Melnick & Finlay Gray.
