Pretty as a peony
A cheap and cheerful garden shop in between Beckenham and Crystal Palace. It's as much a haven for the green fingered locals and those looking for fresh produce. It's only small, but that's part of its charm.

Brambles

I found Brambles when walking between Beckenham and Penge, when I strolled past my local gym. It adds a shot of colour to an otherwise bleak looking road, with bright peppers and blossoming flowers giving the road a bit of life, not to mention attracting the wandering consumer like myself.

Although early in the afternoon, Brambles was surprisingly busy for what I had thought was a calm Sunday. The staff seemed to know each customer, and was engaged in chatter with each of them for at least 2 minutes at a time.

I was happy to browse, and inside the shop found more plants, herbs, and vases to store them in.

When I got the chance to speak with the shop owner she told me that although the fruit and vegetables are not local, they are organic. The produce is fairly priced too (80p for a large pepper, 50p for a bunch of carrots), and looked as though it had been picked from the soil that day.

Brambles also seem to sell bouquets made up and ready 'to-go', if you will. You can pick flowers and request a bespoke bouquet for your living room, or as a gift, but if you're in a hurry, the ready-made bouquets start from £6.00. Not bad in my book, and they are awfully pretty.
