I'm discovering Southampton along with you!
Join the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as they take you through the soundtracks that accompanied films featuring the biggest and best monsters, villains, and the occasional hero. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra: Heroes and Monsters will be performed at the Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday the 16th of February at 7:30pm.

When you think of your favourite heroes or the most evil monsters it's not just their best lines, cool outfits, or terrifying figures that you remember. It's also their soundtrack. Would the water be half as feared if Jaws lacked it's telltale warning sound? Or would the death of Marion Crane in Psycho be as menacing without that piercing string section? Music helps shape the fear and horror in our favourite monster movies, so the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra are bringing all the best songs together for one event.

Heroes and Monsters will feature music from movies with terrifying monsters, towering beasts beasts, deranged serial killers, and paranormal ghouls. Some of the films include Jaws, King Kong, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Gremlins, Dracula, the Mummy, Super 8 and the Abyss. They'll be performing songs written by some of Hollywood's greatest composers, from Bernard Hermann to John Williams.

The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra formed in 1893, and over 100 years later they're performing over 150 concerts a year. They perform all over the UK as well as internationally. Heroes and Monsters will be conducted by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's Pete Harrison. As well as the Portsmouth Guildhall, Heroes and Monsters will also be touring to Exeter, Poole and Bristol.
