Birmingham Hippodrome is promising a bumper year of shows for 2022 with blockbuster musicals, comedy, West End productions, dance and opera.

The theatre, whose pantomime Goldilocks and the Three Bears starring Jason Donovan opens on Saturday December 18, is back with a bang after having to close due to covid restrictions through much of 2020-21.

In February the theatre sees the return of Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! in a newly refurbished production as the show celebrates its 30th anniversary. A fresh look at the classic Tchaikovsky ballet, the show takes audiences from a grim orphanage through the Land of Snow to the magical Sweetieland.

March sees more magic in the shape of Disney's spectacular Beauty and the Beast. Adapted from the film, the musical features hit songs including 'Be My Guest' and 'Home'. Jason Donovan returns as Pharoah alongside Alexandra Burke and Jac Yarrow in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in April and the Abba extravaganza Mamma Mia! returns in May.

The West End hit Waitress tours to Birmingham in May while the National Theatre production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time returns in March-April. Late spring and early summer see the Birmingham premiere of Mischief Theatre's Magic Goes Wrong, Singin' in the Rain, the Queen musical We Will Rock You and the new musical The Cher Show.

August sees the return of the ever-popular Les Miserables with the Carole King musical Beautiful and Sister Act in the autumn. Birmingham Royal Ballet perform Carlos Acosta's new production of Don Quixote in February while Welsh National Opera bring Mozart's Don Giovanni, Janacek's Jenufa and Puccini's Madam Butterfly in April.

Comedy one-nighters include Jack Dee, Stewart Lee, Russell Kane and Rob Beckett while the dance programme includes Akram Khan's new work Jungle Book Reimagined and Motionhouse's Nobody.

The theatre has just published its latest brochure which is also available online. For full details of the 2022 programme and individual ticket information see www.birminghamhippodrome.com
