Except for when it comes to fruit cake, I like my cakes light and fluffy. I was therefore disappointed when I discovered how dense and buttery this Sicilian lemon drizzle cake was; the texture was like that of a bath sponge. If you like madeira cakes, however, then you will probably like this. The zesty lemon makes the cake moist, and it has a tasty crunchy toping. Sadly their mascarpone did not please me either. Very dense, and without flavour.
