Bikram Yoga Manchester

I love yoga. Yogic bodies are always bendy, flexible and enviably toned. The type of toned I like too – just enough muscle peers through their slim bodies to show they're fit and healthy.
Hot Bikram Yoga classes are available in the Northern Quarter, but we warned you must come prepared. Having only been to one Bikram yoga class where they were relaxed and it was very much a 'drop in' session, it was a surprise when the receptionist's already-stern-face became more stern when I arrived twenty minutes before class. You're supposed to be arrive thirty minutes beforehand, so whatever you're doing prior to the class give yourself enough time to get there - they may lock the door. Otherwise turn up with a towel/yoga mat and bottle of water and you're good to go
The timetable changes per day, but Mon-Wednesday classes start at midday, then 5.30pm and 7.15pm. I've found the latest class is very busy, so if you make it any earlier then great.
The class itself is quite brilliant. You enter a calm, hot environment so it's advised to wear shorts (male) or a sports bra and light leggings/shorts (female). You will sweat - that's the point.
It is incredibly cleansing for both skin, body and mind. You become surprisingly centred and when the yoga teacher is instructing you to get into poses you find (for even the most inflexible) your body naturally sways easier because you're limber from the heat.
It is a drop-in class, so if you're feeling a little bored of you're usual exercise regime, or want to try something different with friends. It is great way to shake up your routine, but mostly become fit and healthy for a happier body, and hey, you might find you become one of those 'yogic types' ...
