This year, the BFI will be hosting the 31st edition of the Flare Festival. The festival will also be part of the wider LGBT50 summer season at the
BFI Southbank .
The festival will host the World premiere of British Film
Against The Law (2017), directed by
Fergus O'Brien (
The Armstrongs, Inside Harley Street, Stephen Fry: Out There). The film which will have its initial release in March, looks at Peter Wildeblood, one of the very few out gay men in Britain in the 1950's, over ten years prior to the decriminalisation of homosexual acts in 1967. Starring Daniel Mays (
Line Of Duty, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Public Enemies), Mark Gatiss and Charlie Creed-Miles, the drama made by BBC Studios is one that has been anticipated for both its importance and relevance.
In addition to
Against The Law, other films joining the festival include
HyunJu Lee's
Our Love Story,
Barry Jenkins' award nominated
Moonlight,
Anna Muylaert's
Don't Call Me Son and
Marcelo Caetano's
Body Electric. The entire festival calendar can be found
here , which includes the 24 short films that will be shown at the festival.
