If you're in London this September, you've picked the right time to visit. With cooler weather and fewer crowds, September is the perfect month to explore London's iconic landmarks, attractions, and hidden gems. There are also plenty of events to keep you entertained throughout the month, from London Fashion Week to Totally Thames Festival. Here are 6 of the best things to do in London in September 2024:
1. Natural History Museum Garden
While the Natural History Museum is a must-visit for most tourists, the newly expanded garden is a recent addition that not many people will be aware of. The existing Wildlife Garden has doubled in size, and now features a pond area, as well as walkways and seating. Roam around the gardens and say hello to Fern, a life-size bronze Diplodocus. It’s a great place to relax after perusing the museum, and learn more about the fascinating lives of dinosaurs.
2. Emily in Paris Afternoon Tea
With the hit Netflix series
Emily in Paris back on our screens for its fourth season, Michelin-starred French restaurant Pavyllon London has introduced a themed afternoon tea. Treat yourself and your
Emily in Paris obsessed bestie to a variety of finger sandwiches and Parisian treats, such as Crème Brûlée, pistachio financiers and a ‘beret’ shaped dessert. The restaurant even plays French music, so you can pretend you’re in Paris. Bon appétit!
The Emily in Paris Afternoon Tea is available from Friday to Sunday, between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. It costs £85pp and runs until 27th October.
3. London Fashion Week
Calling all fashionistas! London Fashion Week is undeniably the highlight of the month, with renowned designers showcasing their upcoming creations. London Fashion Week boasts a busy programme of events, ranging from catwalk shows to talks with industry experts to pop-ups. This year, London Fashion Week takes place from 12th to 17th September in various locations across the capital, including the Strand and Covent Garden.
4. Totally Thames Festival
Totally Thames is an annual celebration of the River Thames. Throughout the month of September, attendees can enjoy a line-up of exciting events, including immersive art exhibitions, live performances, and scenic boat trips. Don't miss the Great River Race, a marathon during which over 1,500 participants will compete to raise money for charity.
5. BFI Mediatheque
Looking for somewhere to spend an afternoon this September? Check out the BFI Mediatheque. Situated along the South Bank, the BFI offers a cosy retreat where you can watch films and TV shows for free. The BFI National Archive contains over 70,000 titles - ranging from classic feature films to animation - so you could easily spend a few hours there. After relaxing in the Mediatheque, pop into the café for a hot drink or bite to eat.
6. Connaught Village
Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city this September in Connaught Village. Tucked away behind Oxford Street, Connaught Village is a charming neighbourhood renowned for its stunning Georgian architecture and independent boutiques. Stroll through this leafy village and discover its artisan food shops, art galleries and restaurants. The creamy Basque cheesecake from La Maritxu is a must for anyone with a sweet tooth.
