There are over a dozen venues that host an ice skating rink during the winter months. They have different prices, allow you on for different lengths of time, provide different activities, and each have their own unique atmosphere. So which one is the best?

Alexandra Palace

Where: Alexandra Palace Way, London, N22 7AY
When: 25th October - 14th December
How Much: Starts from 7.28 adult, 6.59 juniors

Opening in 1873 on Queen Victoria's 54th birthday, Alexandra Palace is located on beautiful grounds, but it is not the park you will be skating in, rather the magnificent palace itself. There are numerous ways to enjoy the ice while the rink is open.

For the Halloween half term there will be 31% off all tickets from the 25th October - 2nd November, meaning tickets are 7.28 for adults and 6.59 for juniors if booked in advance. After that tickets are 8 and 7 respectively.

If you have never skated before, then now is your chance to learn. Alexandra Palace is offering drop-in classes as well as full seven/eight week courses, and one-to-one private lessons.

You can also host birthday parties, watch and play ice hockey, and see a production of The Snow Queen on Ice.

Canary Wharf

Where: Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London E14 5AH
When: 1st November -28th February
How Much: 14.50 adults, 9.50 child

Canary Wharf's ice rink is less a rink and more a path. You can skate down ice roads towards their Christmas Market, and enjoy the ever changing views.

Where: Riverside Building, County Hall, SE1 7PB
When: 15th November - 4th January
How Much: Starting from 9.50 adults, 6.75 children

For an iconic view of London, you want to be by the Thames, so where better to go than the ice skating rink by the London Eye? You can book stand alone forty-five minute sessions, or book in conjunction with a trip on the Eye, and observe the skaters down below.

Hampton Court Palace

Where: Hampton Court Palace East Molesey, Surrey, KT8 9AU
When: 21st November - 4th January
How Much: Starting from 11.50 adult, 9.50 concessions, 9 youth, 8 children

I wonder if Henry VIII liked to ice skate. Enjoy the tudor surrounding on the outdoor skate rink. Prices are higher during peak times.

Hyde Park

Where: Hyde Park
When: 21st November - 4th January
How Much: 14.50 adult, 13.50 concession, 9.50 child

Ice Skating is available during Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland. Entrance to the festive fair is free, and you pay for different events once you get inside. Skaters can book one-hour sessions for both day and night; the rink will be illuminated by a hundred thousand lights, and in the centre is the Victorian bandstand. Other attractions include rides, the Magical Ice Kingdom, Ice Bar, circus shows, and an observation wheel.

Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens

Where: Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens
When: 21st November - 4th January
How Much: Starting from 10.80 adult, 9.45 teen/concession, 7.50 child

For the very first time, and ice rink will be appearing at the Victorian Pleasure Gardens. If you fancy trying somewhere new, then this is the place to go. It will also include a Christmas Tree Maze, rides, and a Christmas Market.

Other venues include the Natural History Museum, Broadgate, Wembley Park, Westfield shopping centre, Somerset House, and Victoria Park. And if you somehow mange to miss it all, Queens offer London's only indoor ice rink that is open all year round.

Have you ever been to any of these ice rinks? Which was your favourite and why? Which do you think gives the best value for money?
