There's an abundance of bars to choose from in London, so it can be hard to choose where to go in the big city. Southbank offers some of Londons best bars with its unbeatable views over the Thames, and close neighbouring hot spots such as Westminster Bridge, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace, it's a perfect spot for tourists and locals alike.

Lord Nelson

With Its quirky interior and friendly atmosphere, this bustling bar is a great place for fun and games! Lord Nelson proudly hosts of a weekly pub quiz, with prizes up for grabs for the most humorous answers, popular with students and families wanting to challenge themselves! This place is great for those not wanting to take sophisticated drinking too seriously. For students, a pint can set you back as little as £2.70, as-well as a G &T or vodka and mixer. This pub is more set back than others, located just a 1 mins walk from Southwark station. The quiet spot can have its rewards though, It's a great place to visit a stone throw's away from the busy streets for a perfect retreat.

Founders Arms

The Founders Arms is by far one of Southbank's best-located bars. Located a few yards from the Thames, with outdoor seating and heating this place is fantastic for a sophisticated evening of wine and dining. I'd recommend this bar for a romantic date; it has a great ambience about it which is fitting for just the one or two drinks. With its fancy decor and a killer location… this bar comes at a cost however - expect to pay around £7-£8 for a standard drink. With a location like this, why not have a stroll along the Thames after?

The Understudy

A great ale based bar by the Thames, this place sells a range of ales and bitters… perfect for ale lovers! Although it offers drinks for a particular palette, this bar has a great range of drinks at reasonable prices for the city (£5-£6 a drink). With exposed copper pipes and old traditional polished beer barrels on display - this place offers a great relaxed feel with love for all things old and vintage. This place is a great bar to visit this summer, with its large outdoor seating area scattered by the Thames.

The Stage Door

This hidden bar is amongst the back streets of Southwark, and offers a range of typical British drinking favourites. This rustic looking bar features a lounge sofa area downstairs for those wanting to relax and enjoy privacy, whilst others can find themselves challenging their team mates over a game of pool. With a darts board and Pacman machine also available, this pub doesn't hold back on wanting to encourage a relaxed and friendly environment to drink in. The Stage Door also features a beautiful beer garden in summer, fantastic for those wanting to enjoy the sun with an ice cold beer… ahhh!
