The smooth, yet simultaneously grainy and enthralling sounds of soulful singers of previous era always give me the shivers and musical artist Benjamin Clementine is no different.
Benjamin grew up in London but was discovered while busking on the Paris Metro (what a story). His strong vocals have attracted much praise and comparisons with Nina Simone.
I found his sound on his Soundcloud page, but you can hear him in the flesh this weekend at the Glee Club. He'll be singing songs from his upcoming EP. Although many have compared him with Nina Simone I consider his sound more like a mix between Ray Charles and Billie Holliday (with plenty of piano in the background).
He looks the part too with an easy, too cool to care air about him, and style so undone it's admirable. Couple his look with his sound and you're bound to fall for him, like I have, after giving his music the time of day.
