We're going to catch a big one
We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, we're not scared.
Michael Rosen's award winning picture book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt (1989) was one of my favourite stories when a little. My mum used to read it to me, doing all the voices, and actions, and I had a wail of a time. The illustrations by Helen Oxenbury were simple, but charming, and they were later used to make an animated version of the story, which entertained the another generation of youngsters. And now for the first time, all the toddlers of the world (or at least its touring countries) can enjoy the story in an all new way: live on stage.
Director, Sally Cookson has adapted the thirty-six page book into a fifty-five minute play, using an upbeat score composed by Benji Bower. Tickets are between £14-£21.50, and will be on stage at the LyricTheatre between the 3rd July - 1st September, with showings at 10am, 11am & 12pm.
The show will also be on touring other areas in the UK over the summer, so wherever you are, take the kids on a journey through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river, and the thick oozy, squelchy mud - without them even getting dirty.
