From Teddy Bear Games to Sports at Lichfield Park
Children and their families living in the Lichfield area of Staffordshire are being invited to enjoy a fun-filled day in the city's Beacon Park. The 70-acre park will be hosting the Beacon Park Fun Day on Wednesday 2 August, with the entertainment and activities taking place between 11am and 3pm. A highlight of the day's fun will be the popular Teddy Bear Games which involve children competing in a series of races such as Ted on the Head, the Teddy Sprint, and Teddy Wanging. And, for the first time this year, the Games feature a new event, namely a Pre-walkers Crawling Race, for crawling tots.

Beacon Park Fun Day also includes a range of stalls, giant inflatables, a carousel, and face painting. And, on top of that, there will also be plenty of free activities to try which include maypole dancing, following the Swinfen Broun brass rubbing trail through the park - which is normally priced at 50p each - plus a variety of games such as hoopla, limbo and giant snakes and ladders. Lichfield District Council's sports development team will also be running free sporty activities, including panna football, badminton, volleyball and new age bowls.
Councillor Iain Eadie, the council's Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: "Beacon Park is a fantastic place to visit over the summer, with its beautiful gardens, huge play area and all of the extra activities such as boating on the pool, crazy golf and a packed programme of events. The Fun Day is an event that's purely aimed at children and young people, and is a great way to spend a summer's day outdoors enjoying the many activities on offer. It's also a chance for children to compete in the Teddy Bear Games, so don't forget to bring your teddy bear."
As well as all the fun and games, the event will also offer families the chance to get community safety advice from Lichfield District Safer Community Partnership. This is the partnership that brings together statutory bodies and organisations to tackle crime, including Staffordshire Police, Victim Support, Youth Offending and the council. Representatives will be on hand at the Fun Day to offer safety advice and information about volunteering and employment opportunities, low cost sport and leisure activities for young people, and much more.
The Fun Day will take place at Beacon Park's sports pitches on Wednesday 2 August, between 11am and 3pm. The event is entirely free to get in, but there will be a small charge for some of the activities.
