An Australian satirist and West End musical star, Barry Humphries's biographer, Ann Pender, had described him as 'the most significant theatrical figure of our time' and 'the most significant comedian to emerge since Charlie Chaplin'. Humphries is best known in the role of his alter ego, Dame Edna Everage. Dame Edna is a snobbish housewife with controversial political views and a unique sense of fashion. With lilac hair and cat-eye glasses, she's got good camouflage if she ever found herself in a flowerbed of lavender. Out in the open, however, you could not fail to miss her. Or hear her.
At least up until now. Shortly, Dame Edna will be hanging up her her wig, and is saying goodbye to her UK fans in a final
Farewell Tour. Barrie Humphries has already said ta-ta to his fellow Aussies and Kiwi mates, having received standing ovations for his stand up show,
Eat, Pray, Laugh.
Dame Edna promises to 'empower' her audience with discussions of loss, gender, climate change, gay marriage, and ethnicity'. She will be joined by Humphries other alter egos, Sandy Stone and Les Patterson. Tickets start from £26 and go up to £96 for premium seats.
