Barn the Spoon Carve Workshop

Here's more proof that there really is nowhere quite like East London...after all, where else in the country would you find a shop located on a main street dedicated to the art of making wooden spoons.
That's right - wooden spoons.
Barn the Spoon is the person behind the shop, as well as the name of the shop itself, and for some reason it all seems to make sense. The windows are big and welcoming, and show off the activity happening inside - which largely revolve around whittling (I believe that's the correct term) pieces of wood into beautiful earthy spoons.
Should you want to have a go yourself, whole day classes are available to delve into the art of the spoon, with all materials provided, and your own spoon to take away with you at the end. If you would just prefer to have the product, without the effort of course you can just go ahead and
buy one .
You just have to love the fact this place exists, and I really, really hope you go and pay a visit soon - as you know, seeing is believing, and this really is real. Barn the Spoon is almost like a magical shop of 200-plus years ago - the kind of place you would get off your horse and stride over to the shop to have a chat with the owner - except it exists in 2014, and the chance of seeing a horse on this busy main street are slim to none these days. Barn the Spoon I salute you, and thanks for keeping the art of the hand made carved object alive.
