You know how those few days between Boxing Day and New Year's Day can feel a little "no man's land", a bit "neither here nor there" – well, take advantage of
Raymond Gubbay's Christmas Festival at the Barbician – from 27th December to 1st January – and that patch of wilderness will flash by in an instant. Trust me, Gubbay knows what he's doing.
The revered classical music promoter has vast experience when it comes to staging entertaining shows – he organises hundreds around the world every year – so you can rest assured that his Christmas Festival at the Barbican this year will be one to remember.
Gubbay has drawn up an exciting calendar of music-based events for the end of the year, all of which take place at the wonderful Barbican Hall venue in the City of London.
So what exactly has Mister Gubbay got lined up for visitors to his festival?
For starters, there's the
Last Night of the Christmas Proms , taking place on the 27th December. Billed as "an unforgettable programme of rousing classics with a grand British finale", the evening features works from the likes of Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Strauss and Elgar.
The "grand British finale" comes in the form of
Land of Hope and Glory and
Rule, Britannia, which should be a lot of fun.
Ultimate Movie Heroes has all the makings of a memorable night out, with conductor Anthony Inglis leading his orchestra through famous movie music from blockbusters such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman and Star Wars.
Other shows include a performance by the renowned
Glenn Miller Orchestra and
The Four Seasons by Candlelight .
For the full line-up of events, check out the Barbican's dedicated webpage
here .
Tickets cost from £16.50 to £42.50 and can be booked by calling 020 7638 8891.
