Kick start your weekend with a bit of table football

Football is a bit of an obsession to us Brits, I know - to the point were people wonder why we are so fanatical about it. Let's face it, how many other countries actually have text alert services available that will actually text you when your team scores a goal?

Therefore it may not surprise you to learn that one of the all-time favourite pub games in the UK is table football, a game were two plucky opponents take charge of a football team each, and play a fast and furious game of dropping large solid balls into the space between the two teams, before spinning the life out of the four metal poles that have your players attached to them. Of course, these players are amateur, as if you take it seriously you will know that there is as much skill and flair in the game played properly as can be seen in the standard football ground come Saturday afternoon... and that spinning the hell out of your players is simply not allowed in polite society.

So, where do you need to head to see these would-be professionals ply their craft? Bar Kick of course...

In the transient world of Shoreditch - where fashions come and go in the drop of a false eyelash - Bar Kick has more than held its own since its opening as the sister to Clarkenwell's Cafe Kick, back in 2001. Since then it has delighted people with its delicious fresh food and selection of drinks at the bar - and of course, the collection of very busy football tables that take over one side of the bar.

To add to this, there are regular dj's playing to the up-for-it crowd - and screens over the football tables for those who prefer to watch than join in.

Be warned, it may not be easy to get on the tables if you haven't pre-booked, and sometimes the only way to play is to challenge the last victor to a 'winner-stays-on' match - just remember - no spinning...
