Composers and choreographers create new pieces in 14 days
All lovers of ballet are in for a real treat when the acclaimed and award-winning BalletBoyz return with a brand new show to the Lichfield Garrick theatre in Staffordshire as part of a new national tour. In fact, Fourteen Days, which comes to the Lichfield Garrick on Saturday 18th November, is a compilation of four completely new works as well as the return of a former audience favourite.

BalletBoyz, which was formed as a dance company in 2001, have since been celebrated around the world for their stunning live performances, as well as their film and television appearances. The new works by BalletBoyz are contained in the first half of Fourteen Days. Choreographers Javier de Frutos, Craig Revel Horwood, Ivan Perez and Christopher Wheeldon were teamed with composers Scott Walker, Joby Talbot, Charlotte Harding and Keaton Henson. The respective partnerships were then each given just fourteen days in which to create their pieces. Playing with the concept of balance and imbalance, the result is an exciting and varied programme of dance and music.

The second half of the evening is then taken over by BalletBoyz's former dance creation, Fallen. Choreographed by Russell Maliphant and set to a powerful score by French film composer Armand Amar, Fallen won the National Dance Award for Best Modern Choreography in 2013. The new Fourteen show by BalletBoyz follows the 2016 tour of their previous dance production, LIFE, which was performed at the Lichfield Garrick in May of that year. Co-founders Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt created the Balletboyz from scratch in 2001. The pair, who were awarded OBEs in 2012 for services to dance, met while studying at the Royal Ballet School before going on to spend several years together as professional dancers at the Royal Ballet itself. Michael and Billy's retirement from dancing in 2010 coincided with their decision to form a new ground-breaking project called TALENT involving a group of young male dancers. Since then, BalletBoyz has continued to develop, resulting in them winning the National Dance Award for Best Independent Company in 2013.
