If you are ever in North Devon and fortunate enough to find your way up the twisting road from Braunton, past the quaint village of Croyde, to the National Trust's Baggy Point, then visiting Baggy Lodge & Café is enough to make the trip worthwhile.

The owners take maximum advantage of the magnificent views across the Bristol Channel to the Atlantic Ocean, with the terraced area and holiday accommodation.

Baggy Lodge has three luxury double rooms furnished to a high standard, as well as 12 beds in a bunk style accommodation. The latter is of course extremely handy for groups of young people.

Baggy's is also popular for meals and snacks for anyone walking by the door to the spectacular Baggy Point headland.

The café serves simple but delicious food, including piping hot "Devon Pasties" – shortcrust pastry pockets containing meat and vegetables in various tasty combinations.

Of course you can also enjoy a Devon cream tea there, plump scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

The danger is once you sit on the terrace of Baggy Point and savour that view of Croyde Bay, you might just be tempted to stay longer instead of continuing on your walk!

During the summer months, the Lodge and Café offer Sunset Sessions. Free food is offered while you enjoy music, beverages and an unbeatable sunset experience.

Not surprisingly as Baggy Point headland cuts through some of the UK's finest surfing beaches (Croyde and Putsborough), Baggy Lodge and café has a true surfer vibe.

Its staff look like they have just dried off from the sea, and all have local knowledge they love to share.

Baggy Lodge is also home to the Lyndon Wake Surf School. So if you are staying over in the lodge or nearby, this could be your chance to have a surf lesson with tutors trained by Ripcurl Pro rider Lyndon Wake.

All in all, a laid-back establishment, with friendly staff, with no frills, but simple pleasures in one of Devon's "beauty spots".
