Comedian and children’s author
David Walliams has teamed up with the award-winning
Birmingham Stage Company to bring the family adventure
Awful Auntie to theatres around the country.
The show visits
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from March 24 to March 31, 2024, and
The Alexandra in Birmingham from October 17 till October 19, 2024, as part of a nationwide tour.
It’s an intriguing tale – Stella sets off to visit London with her parents, but she has no idea that her life is in danger. When she wakes up three months later, only her Aunt Alberta can tell her what has happened. But not everything Alberta tells her turns out to be true and Stella quickly discovers she’s in for the fight of her life against her very own awful Auntie!
Neal Foster is the adapter and director of
Awful Auntie, and for the first time he is also appearing in the title role (pictured above). Neal is the Actor/Manager of The Birmingham Stage Company, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022. Since its foundation in 1992, BSC has staged over 100 productions and the company has become one of the world’s leading producers of theatre for children and their families.
In 2018 Neal was awarded an Honorary Professorship by Amity University New Delhi in recognition of the Birmingham Stage Company’s success in staging quality family theatre across the globe. He has written and directed all the most recent
Horrible Histories shows, including the
Barmy Britain series seen in the West End, across the UK and internationally.
Awful Auntie is BSC’s latest collaboration with David Walliams, which includes the Oliver Award-nominated
Gangsta Granny,
Billionaire Boy and
Demon Dentist.
David Walliams said: “
The BSC’s live shows of my books are always brilliant.”
