Avenue House Estate

One of the great things about living in London is that you can fall across a little piece of enchantment just about anywhere. Today, by following my nose (and a leafy laneway), I fell across Avenue House Estate.
As I walked further and further away from Regents Park Road, the noise of traffic seemed to disappear and the quiet embraced me. As I entered, I could smell that slightly damp leafiness that brought back memories of rainforest walks as a child.
The estate comprises the Grade II listed Victorian Mansion (which can be hired out for functions) and the neighbouring Lodge.
.
There's also The Bothy, which contains the old kitchen gardens...
...a kiosk and tearooms and a playground for the kiddies.
You can walk your dog...
...or take a seat and watch the world go by.
But the piece d'resistance is really the grounds. Every corner I turned had me snapping yet another spectacular scene. I took loads of pics but here are a few of my faves:
There are several entrances to the Estate so it's pretty easy to find and the kiosk/tearooms are open every day from 10am. But quite frankly, I think it's the perfect place for a picnic and an afternoon sprawled on the grass reading the paper.
