Celebrate changing of the season with weekend festival
With the official start of Autumn just days away, the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire is staging a special two-day event to mark the start of the new season. An Autumn Festival will take place over the weekend of Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of September at the Arboretum, in Alrewas, near Lichfield. The event will feature a host of free fun family activities with a seasonal twist. Set among the changing colour of the Arboretum's 30,000 trees there promises to be something for everyone to enjoy on the occasion of the celebration of autumn. Families will be able to meet a variety of woodland creatures and birds, participate in games sessions facilitated by skills leaders, try their hand at archery, or head to the craft grotto to explore their creative side using a selection of natural materials. Younger visitors can settle down in Mr McGregor's Story Shed to enjoy a series of short storytelling sessions or embark on an adventure to help the Stick Man find his way back to the family tree after collecting a trail map from the Welcome Desk.

The Autumn Festival also includes a Food & Craft Fair where visitors will find a wide range of stalls selling handmade seasonal crafts and food produce, from tasty chocolate treats to cheeses, wines and whiskeys. In addition, for those wishing to further explore the Arboretum's fabulous 150-acre site, wildlife-themed guided walks will be available to help discover and learn about the natural environment of the Arboretum. The walks will be available at selected times for 3 per person. For further details and timings visit: Sarah Oakden, Head of Marketing at the Arboretum, said: "Our Autumn Festival offers a fantastic selection of free seasonal activities and shopping opportunities, ensuring there is something for all the family. Events like the Autumn Festival play an important role in helping us reach new audiences, encouraging them to take a stroll through our 150-acres of woodlands and gardens to discover some of the incredibly sculpted memorials commemorating individuals and groups who have served our country."
