To paraphrase Dorothy: 'There is no place like London.' I hope I can convince you of that here. Also check out my blog at damselwithadulcimer.wordpress.com and my theatre reviews at www.playstosee.com
Event:
Beaut London Parties with Barbies, Beer and Jumbuck Pies
The London Australian scene has changed immensely since the last century. No longer do Aussies all migrate to Kangaroo Valley, aka Earls Court. Nor do they travel round Europe in VW Dormobiles, which they then sell behind the National Gallery before returning back down under.

Whether or not expat Australians are feeling homesick on 26 January, when they really should be back home on the beach, they can still have a bonzer time celebrating their national day at several London venues.

Jetlag Sports Bar in Fitzrovia is open from 1pm onwards. Foods on offer will include kangaroo steaks, king prawns, Aussie burgers and pavlova. Beers will hail from Australia and Tasmania, or you could sip at a cocktail, such as a Gold Coaster. To accompany your feasting and boozing there will be a movie marathon to include Adventures of Priscilla - Queen of the Desert and Muriel's Wedding and live music will be provided by the Punching Preachers and Craig Giovanelli.

At all branches of Draft House you can stuff yourself with a 6 ounce Ute Burger or a Kylies Meat Pie washed down with craft or bottled beers.

TNT Busabout andt will be raising their glasses at Infernos in Clapham between 9am and 9pm. Free arrival drinks are on offer before midday although the other Aussie beers and Jumbuck Pies will be chargeable. DJs will be on hand to entertain you throughout the day, and there will also be prizes for the best dressed partygoers.

Also in Clapham, the Church will be offering all things Oz, including the aforesaid beers and pies, and prizes from Mackbackpackers and Stoke Travel.

Moving on to Fulham the Elk Bar will be toasting Australia Day with Bundy and Cokes and Snakebites for washing down the sausages that have been sizzling on the barbie.

To round up the bars, where other than Walkabout in Shepherds Bush? The day opens at 8am for brekkie, and entertainment will be courtesy of the Hi-Fidels, Dallas Frasca and the Bondie Beach Bums.

Of course if you're in the top echelons of Australian society in the UK you may have already received an invitation to celebrate at Australia House in London. Greg Malouf will be cooking in the kitchen and nominations are now open for 'Australian of the Year in the UK', 'Honorary Australian of the Year in the UK' and 'Young Australian Achiever of the Year in the UK'. The winners will be announced on the night.

Wherever you party, have fun, and go easy on the amber fluid. It's not pretty to see somebody chundering in the street.
