Fresh open and friendly are the first words that come to mind when I think of eating at ASK Italian in Sheffield. The decor is bright, yet relaxed and the layout is very open plan, which lessens the feeling of being in a busy restaurant full of hungry customers. Very cleverly done.

As I was a newcomer to Sheffield and to this particular restaurant, I had no idea what to expect, but the staff were very welcoming and friendly. My food came out of the kitchen very quickly and the pre meal bread balsamic vinegar and olives that came as standard was anything but. Soft bread, sweet vinegar, neither overly fussy nor your average. I was hungry and it was willing.

The chicken tagine with focaccia bread was a lot nicer than expected and presented in an adorable little pot and the bread was so soft and tasty. Despite its size the portion was actually quite generous. Everything was reasonably priced and although I would class ASK Italian as a more generic 'Italian restaurant' it does the job; delicious well priced food that caters for all. Pizza, pasta and calzones are on the menu for the less fussy customer.

I only wish I had tried the wine, as they appeared to have an extensive wine collection that I had forgone purely out of ignorance. Definitely would go again with a group of friends to line my stomach before hitting Sheffield town.
