Antishop - something to unhate

Sometimes a place is more than just a place - it is a statement. I believe this is the case with one of the newbies on Brick Lane - the Antishop.

So what exactly is it? Well it is actually many things - it is a Delicatessen, serving Mediterranean food, a coffee shop and a lifestyle store. It has a focus on the handmade, and all of the foodstuffs to buy come from independent family run operations in Italy, Greece, Spain and the South of France.

That is the handmade, now let's focus on the heart. The Antishop plans to adapt its store on a regular basis, by giving artists from the CASS school the chance to decorate the store with furnishings they have created, as well as paintings and kitchenware, so giving a leg up to the new generation of designers.

As well as this they aim to help the community by giving you the chance to buy a suspended product, whether a coffee, cake, meal, piece of furniture, whatever - you decide who you want to receive the gift, and they will contact you once it has been accepted.

There will also be Charity Specials ever day, which if you buy that item, a percentage of the profit will be given to the Action Against Hunger charity.

All in all, the Antishop aims to care less about themselves, and more about the community they are in, which can only be a good thing can't it? Imagine if all shops were Antishops...
