Live Stage Show Pays Musical Tribute to Movie Soundtrack
With the 15th series of BBC TV's Strictly Come Dancing show currently announcing its list of celebrity contestants, there is clearly no better time to be enjoying all things ballroom, from the polka and rumba to the foxtrot and waltz. So, no wonder that the Lichfield Garrick theatre will shortly be playing host to a live stage show that embraces the wonderful world of dance. The Garrick will be staging An Evening Of Dirty Dancing: The Tribute Show on September 13. As the name suggests, the show is a tribute to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack that followed the 1987 release of Dirty Dancing the movie, an American romantic drama starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the lead roles.

Originally a low-budget film by a new studio, Dirty Dancing became a massive box office hit, while the subsequent soundtrack record generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. Other songs on the soundtrack ranged from "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow", to "You Don't Own Me" and "She's Like the Wind". An Evening Of Dirty Dancing, which is currently in its 7th hit year of touring both the UK and internationally, is a fully choreographed, highly interactive concert celebration of the music from the iconic movie. Audiences should note that this production is not affiliated with Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story which has been on stage in the West End and on tour in the UK.

Musical theatre stalwart Julian Essex-Spurrier continues to lead the production of An Evening Of Dirty Dancing, having played numerous iconic leading roles including Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever, Rocky in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Riff in West Side Story and Rusty in Starlight Express. He is joined by West End regular Lucy Jane Adcock whose numerous theatre credits include Adelaide in the international tour of Chichester Festival Theatre's Guys & Dolls, Cassie in A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, and tours of shows ranging from Happy Days and Beauty & The Beast to Mamma Mia!, Fame, and Matilda. An Evening of Dirty Dancing: The Tribute Show promises music fans a high energy emotional roller-coaster with breathtaking choreography and buckets of nostalgia. It is directed by Paul Spicer with choreography by Leanne Harwood.

We totally encourage our audiences to sing and dance and immerse themselves in this incredible music. I watch people leave the theatre on a real high. This is a multi-award winning soundtrack steeped in nostalgia. I challenge anyone to come along and not have a fantastic time!"
