I recently went to Alton Towers, (for those of you who have never heard of it, it is in Staffordshire just north of Birmingham) I am a big theme park fan, I love to go out, have fun and experience the thrill of the rides.

The park is made up of different sections all with individual names. It is too big to go on everything in one day, so I will only tell you about the locations I went to.

When going to a theme park we all tend to take our own drinks and food as the prices are high, but Alton Towers have a good deal, where if you buy a large cup of fizzy drink you get free refills all day, so that is what we did.

The first ride we went to when we had got our drinks was oblivion, located in the X-sector, the carriage has only two lines of seats, this vertical drop is a ride that will give you such a thrill, you have to go on it more than once, you know you shouldn't look down it tells you not to look down, but you do.

Looking at the hole in the ground, it looks so small compared to the carriage you are sat in, the only thing that runs through your mind is we are never going to fit through that, dropping into pitch darkness you have no idea how far underground you are, although you are only underground for a second it feels a lot longer.

We then went on a ride called Air. The rollercoaster is made to make you feel like you are flying. While lying flat, facing the floor you speed past objects such as trees, buildings and street lamps, so close it makes you cringe with excitement.

The theme park isn't just rides, it is also about the scenery and the history, as the legend goes, on an autumn night in 1821, the Earl of Shrewsbury was returning to his home in Alton Towers when an old woman appeared in the road.

The coach stopped to ask why she was there, and then the old woman begged for a coin.

The Earl cruelly dismissed her, so the old woman placed a curse on him. The old woman said, "For every branch on the Old Oak Tree here that falls, a member of the Earl's family will die." The Earl dismissed this and carried on his way home.

That night, during a violent storm a branch from the old oak tree broke and fell. Later that same night, a member of the Earl's family suddenly and mysteriously died. To prevent any more deaths the Earl ordered his servants to chain every branch together to prevent other branches from falling. To this day, the Oak tree remains chained up.

The legend of the old oak tree will be fully told in a walk through ride called "Hex".

I really enjoyed Hex. You walk through the towers and along the way, videos recount the legend. I won't go into too much detail as I don't want to ruin the experience and what is to come in the ride, but for anyone like myself who is interested in legends, it is marvellous.

It is said that the Towers are haunted, I had an experience inside but, it's not enough for me to say that it is haunted.

One of the rides we went on was probably the fastest rollercoaster I have ever been on, Rita Queen of Speed aka Rita. The ride catapults you from 0-100km/ph in 2.5 seconds. Although a good, fun, fast ride it is also one of the most uncomfortable rides I have been in contact with. The seats are hard, your head bangs from side to side with nothing on the head rest to soften the blows, and I had a headache when I got off the ride.

When I was younger, my brother told me about a Haunted House in Alton Towers, and I have wanted to go in it ever since, but I have never been able to find it, except this time I found it, and I loved it. The ride has changed a bit since the last time my brother went on it, but to get to it you have to walk through gloomy wood, the walk is incredible, walking through a forest, the smoke at your feet and growling coming from the statues, makes it a very creepy walk.

We got to the haunted house called Duel, walking inside the floors are not level, with ghostly pictures, dolls and doll houses on show. You then sit in a bathtub that seats 4 people and each have a water gun.Going around the house, you have to battle your friends, who can squirt the most targets. This ride is a lot of fun and a good laugh for you and your friends. (Under 18's have to be accompanied by an adult.)

The rollercoaster that made my day was TH13TEEN, located in the Dark forest. It is based on the discovery of an unearthed ancient burial site in an area of unexplored woodland, known as the Dark Forest. This ride actually made me scream. The rollercoaster is a lot of fun, but while inside the car, in a pitch black room something much unexpected happens. You will have to go on the ride to find out what I am talking about, I'm not going to give away all the surprises.

The next ride we went on is one of the most popular rides in Alton Towers, the intense Nemesis ride takes you over rivers of blood and rock, reaching G-forces greater than a space shuttle launch. Nemesis was Europe's first ever inverted roller coaster, which opened on 16th March 1994. It is located in Forbidden Valley and takes over 1,000 people an hour cork-screwing, spinning and racing through the park at breakneck speeds. It is still one of the most heart-pounding, exciting and exhilarating rides.

After Nemesis, I was feeling a little tired, the long walk through the park, big black new rock boots weighing me down, I just wanted to go home. Always remember to wear a sensible pair of shoes when going to Alton Towers, do not make the same mistake I did, because my legs ached for a week after that trip.

My friends decided they was not done yet, and wanted to go on another ride, I really wasn't in the mood, so I sat back and watched while they rode RIPSAW. I cannot tell you how the ride was, as I was not on it. What I can tell you is, while I was sitting nice and firmly on the ground, my friends were stuck about 50ft in the air for fifteen minutes because ripsaw had broken down with a lot of people on it. Luckily I was not one of those people.

Alton Towers is a very interesting, fun place to spend a day out, or even a weekend.

If it's a weekend away you are looking for, they have a personal hotel and do special theme park entry ticket deals.

Have fun and don't forget to report any supernatural experiences.
