Alexandra Park in north London celebrates
150 Years of the People's Park on 21 July, making it as old as London's Metropolitan Line. Its name honours Princess Alexandra of Denmark, who had recently married Prince Edward (later Edward VII). To commemorate the park's century and a half, Londoners are invited have fun in the People's Park throughout the day.
The festival runs between 11am and 4pm, with a South Terrace Street Party continuing to 6pm. In addition to the Beach Stage, the Grove Bandstand and the Festival Zone will be homes to local musicians, dancers and choirs. Other areas of the park will encompass a funfair, activity, cricket and festival zones, pitch and putt, pedalo races, archery, tethered balloon rides and a farmers' market. If nothing else you will also be able to enjoy amazing views over London as you can see from the picture below.
Alexandra Park is also home to
Alexandra Palace (Ally Pally). The People's Palace was originally used as a theatre and is remembered for being the home to the first BBC television broadcasts in 1936. It is now used for exhibitions, concerts and conferences.
With so much history, as well as fun, entertainment and open spaces, you should pencil 21 July into your diary.
