If you're looking for somewhere special to take traditional afternoon tea, then the Petersham Hotel in Richmond is a great choice. Situated at the top of Richmond Hill, the hotel is perfectly placed for picturesque views across unspoilt meadows and along the River Thames. You may be in busy South-West London, but it will certainly feel like you're a world away from the city during your time here.



If you are feeling especially celebratory, then you can begin your afternoon tea experience with a glass of champagne. This is followed by a three-tiered tray of sandwiches, cakes and scones, along with a pot of tea. The freshly cut finger sandwiches are filled with Scottish smoked salmon, cream cheese and chives; honeyroast ham and wholegrain mustard; smoked Applewood cheese with apple cider chutney; and traditional cucumber. The soft and crumbly fruit scones come with West Country clotted cream and strawberry jam. For the tea you are offered a choice of traditional English, Earl Grey, Assam, Darjeeling or herbal. You are then left to enjoy the delicious food and drink while chatting and taking in the view. It is definitely advisable to turn up hungry, as there is plenty of food to leisurely work your way through.



The afternoon tea experience costs £24.50 per person and a glass of champers is an additional £12.50. It is served from 3.30pm to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from 4.00pm to 5.30pm on Sundays. It is definitely worth booking ahead as there are limited tables available – you can do so by calling the hotel restaurant on 020 8939 1084.
