Cake Boy in Battersea is owned by famous TV chef Eric Landlard, a French pâtissier who is renowned for his fabulous cakes and pastries.
Cake Boy is described on his website as a "luxury but relaxed cake boutique" and that is definitely what it is.
This lovely little place is a cafe with an incorporated cookery school with modern , sophisticated decorations and cakes galore.
The cakes are right in front of you when you walk in, not cheap, but worth the price due to the fact they are delicious.
I didn't try the cake below, a large macaroon/whoopee pie, raspberry treat, as much as I was extremely tempted to buy it, as I had arrived for a deal I bought from
Red Letter Days ; an afternoon of Champagne and Macaroon Tasting. Personally, I am a huge macaroon fan, so this was right up my street.
We were greeted and soon seated in a small but luxuriously appointed lounge area at a little glass table with comfy sofa type seats. Our glasses of champagne were poured and 12 beautifully made, expertly decorated and multi-coloured macaroons were placed in front of us.
The waiter then proceeded to explain the flavours used in each one, and as he wandered off, I tasted a nibble of each one, putting them in flavour preference (perhaps slightly organised for cake tasting, yes, but they were just so good I wanted to savour every one of them) whilst sipping my champagne.
I was also very envious of some of the people around who had a large selection of exquisitely presented cakes and sweets, sandwiches galore and croissants with mozzarella and ham piled high for their afternoon teas. I will definitely be heading back at some point to sample one of these afternoon teas.
I did however try the frothy cappuccinos to wash down the cakes and champagne. They were delicious and well made with strong coffee so would definitely recommend them too.
A cookery school is also run alongside the cafe, classes and prices can be found on their website
here . Students get to take the things they make home with them and a lunch is included in the price.
As well as selling cakes, pastries and sandwiches, Cake Boy sells cake cutters, books by Eric himself and all sorts of cake related gifts.
A really gorgeous little place for a cake and a coffee (or champagne) to spend a while away from the madness that is London and if you are lucky, Eric will even be there to greet you himself.
Cake Boy is set in South London near Wandsworth Town or Clapham Junction Station and reservations can be made
